(though it feels like everything’s
still floating by at speed)
I’m not quite sure
just how I'm supposed to feel now
and nothing shakes the fear of
staying the same,
never gaining control and
stuck in reverse forever
and "it’s all over"
is all over now

sand castles crumble under the weight of your arms
the sun’s retiring
sooner or later this pier will drown upon
heavy rain and boredom pissing away
it’s not quite worth the stay
only so many pints will keep me awake
this nowhere town will sink one day anyway and shortly after
the waterslides and shit-stained streets will
rot away and nothing changes
just think of all the chip forks laid waste.
nuclear war may come and melt half the world
but I’d not step one foot in this town
even if it was paved with lead
the aura of a stag weekend won’t decay
nor will the soggy chips
and plastic table covers
the half-life of a chain pub on the beachside: four millenia
how much I’d care to come back, from 1 to 5: nearer 0 than 2
bury me in sand instead.

wait and hold on now
I’ve only started and
now everything feels real
I’m waiting patiently for something more;
for something else than just this sinking boredom
dripping down on me
I’m dropping off the grand scheme of things
jumping off of the big picture now
